Manual Handling & Hand Tools
The units of competency covered in this course are:
- TLIB0012 Maintain and Use Hand Tools
- TLID1001 Shift Materials Safely Using Manual Handling Methods
At the successful completion of this course you will be able to:
- Identify hazards associated with manual handling activities
- Describe the types of injuries that can result from unsafe manual handling activities
- Identify techniques that can reduce the likelihood of injuries from manual handling activities
- Outline factors that must be considered when planning for manual handling activities
- Identify the requirements for safe handling and use of hazardous substances
- Demonstrate correct team lifting techniques
- Understand why the correct hand tool must be used for each work task
- Identify the action that must be taken if the correct tool is not available for a particular work tasks
- Understand why hand tools should be maintained in a clean and serviceable state
- Identify the action to be taken when hand tools are found to be unsafe or unserviceable
- Identify a range of hand tools and what they are used for
- Identify any additional PPE requirements for a range of hand tools
- Understand the safety requirements for using at least 7 hand tools, and
- Demonstrate the safe use of at least 7 hand tools.
