At the successful completion of this course you will be able to:

• Identify what are new welds and where the repairs are located
• Identify the defects relating to wheel burns, rail battering and rail overflow
• Understand the appropriate repair method and/or profile to ensure completed work meets specifications
• Grind rail to profile using approved equipment in accordance with workplace procedures and OH&S and environmental requirements
• Grind rail gauge face to match adjacent rail in curves
• Measure rail profile and vertical and horizontal alignment to ensure compliance with standards
• Assess rail surface condition for compliance to standards
• Use approved equipment to grind rail in accordance with workplace procedures and OH&S and environmental requirements
• Ensure the finished surface is checked with regard to compliance with specifications
• Complete all relevant documentation in accordance with workplace requirements.
